A Roof, A Relief, and a Reminder of Community

I knew my roof was getting old — it was from 2006 — but that became a much heavier reality when my homeowner’s insurance dropped me, giving me just 30 days to find a new policy and citing my roof as uninsurable. Like many Floridians, I was caught in the aftermath of the recent hurricanes and the insurance fallout that followed. A new roof was something I needed, but it was a cost I simply couldn’t cover.

That’s where Owens Corning, Batterbee Roofing, Building Homes for Heroes, and Purple Heart Homes stepped in.

Through Owens Corning’s Community Impact Program, a brand-new roof was fully donated, and expertly installed by Batterbee Roofing. Not only were premium Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles used in Onyx Black, but the project included upgraded components like peel-and-stick underlayment over the entire surface — potentially qualifying me for wind mitigation discounts due to the Secondary Water Resistance (SWR) layer. It was a massive value both financially and structurally — freeing up budget in other areas of the project and removing a major burden from my shoulders.

From start to finish, Batterbee Roofing was top-tier. Their professionalism, thorough communication, and precision during a one-day install was incredible to witness. Shout out to Rhett Raghunanan and Martinez for setting the tone with integrity and commitment to excellence.

Programs like this are a gift — and like any gift, they’re best received with humility and gratitude. I can’t thank each of these organizations enough for what they’ve done for me and my family. This is what impact looks like.

Update 4/22/25

Still frustrated. Made an appointment with Manny on 24 March at 10:00, he was a no show. No calls although he came by about 5 hours after the appointment was scheduled. We then scheduled an appointment to fix the shoddy workmanship in 2 weeks on 8 April. The night before the scheduled fix I rcvd a text that the flashing wasn’t in. Ok 2 weeks later still waiting….no communication and I could have went to Lowe’s or Home Depot to get the flashing.emailed owner Justin Blandford with no response!

Original post: I would go 1/2 star. Roof looks ok from what I can see. Not great at metal work around some areas. Had a solar skylight put in at the same time the roof was complete. Had some minor cracking in the ceiling around solar tube. Had to fix AC ducts since they were not working (kinked), also had to fix garage door opener (wire in attic was pulled out)

Response to your reply to my post 3/19/25. So At 1:20 I replied to manny and at 1:43 I replied to you the owner, So please don’t make your mistakes and shoddy work about me not contacting you for 3 hours!

—— ok response to your post 3/20/24 .. I’m embarrassed to be litigating this on google but as I stated in the email sent 3/19/25 I would like correspondence via email or text. I have not received any response since yesterday at 2:15 so again a communication issue on my part ….. ?

1. (Batterbee) 12/11/24, a walkthrough with the project manager took place at that time. During the walkthrough, no issues were identified, and a certificate of completion was signed, acknowledging your satisfaction with the work.

a. Response: OK I was in the hospital in San Antonio, so my wife was able to sign off on your certificate of completion on 12/11/24. So your guy showed her what you did and signed. That doesn’t excuse the shoddy workmanship as presented in the pictures.

2. (Batterbee) On 12/18, our office attempted a series of follow-up calls,
a. response: yes I was out of state .. see above.

3. (Batterbee) On 1/3 we successfully reached you. During this call, you confirmed that all work had been completed satisfactorily, and the walkthrough earned a 5-star review from you.
a. my response: ok not so sure about the 5 star review quote, pain meds do strange things to memory, but yes I kinda remember acknowledging the work was completed but as previously stated I was not involved in the walkthrough.

4. (Batterbee) The first notification of any issues came on 3/19 through your Google review, which outlined concerns regarding metal work, the solar skylight, AC ducts, and the garage door wiring. As soon as we became aware of these concerns, we reached out promptly—leaving a voicemail at 9:15 AM and following up with an email at 12:50 PM. We also responded to your review, emphasizing our attempts to connect and resolve the situation. Batterbee had addressed your review before receiving your response via email.
a. Response: ok, I apologize for not getting back to you until 1:20 and 1:43, about 4 hours.

5. We deeply regret any inconvenience and have offered to visit your property to address your concerns, conduct a thorough inspection, and rectify any issues, including correcting the fascia. We are currently awaiting your response and remain committed to finding a resolution that meets your expectations.

a. I was under the impression that a walkthrough was completed 12/11/24 see above.
b. So does that mean you’re going to fix my ceiling?
c. I understand YOU definitely need to fix the metal

Install went great. Travis was very good and easy to work with. Project completed in one day. Appreciated the updates and end of project walk through. Guys were polite and the mess was totally cleaned up when they left. The pictures reflect the netting and tarps to protect our home and property and the finished project. There was a solar light missing from the neighbors yard that was caught up in the netting but Travis was great in working with the owner, exchanged numbers with her and to let her know if it wasn’t found or was broken it would be replaced.
