Is Preferred Plumbing a real company?
Someone named Mike Jr. from Al’s Plumbing showed up at our home this morning, charged almost $300 for basically nothing, and then turned us over to a restoration company.
Fine, get your money…
However, when I called Mike Jr. later with some follow up questions (which he suggested I do), he was very elusive and evasive. He wouldn’t even tell me his last name.
“I’m Mike from Al’s Plumbing.”
Sooooo, why the mystery?
Even the dispatcher at Preferred Plumbing would not give us Mike’s last name.
Interestingly, they both asked the same question:
“Why do you need to know?”
Well, first, we would just like to know who we’re dealing with. We might have to look you up.
Next, you have both of our full names and my wife’s credit card info, but we can’t know your last name?
Again, why the mystery?
Lesson learned: ask more questions beforehand.
Basically, I found Mike Jr. to be rude and unprofessional and very argumentative AFTER he got our money. Beforehand, when he was in our living room, waiting to get paid, he was as nice as he could be.
Is that how business is done nowadays? Wow. I guess I’m old school. This younger generation of workers are really something else.
I gave one star because I could not leave a post without it. One of the plumbers came to my home to check a leakage in my home and the only thing that I received was $292 bill that came with a level of unprofessionalism (e.g., cursing and giving his opinion on what was none of his business). I had another company come out Tim McDermott from “At your service plumbing” and he was kind and professional. He told me what the issue was and how it can be fixed. He (Tim) also made the effort to at least recaulk around both tubes and all water fixtures in the home to be able to shower without any leakage until I can have both bathrooms re-tiled in August. I have already made the arrangements to have the re-tile work done. AND he showed me how to flush out the pipes for better water pressure. This service was definently with the extra $265 for his professionalism and true kindness. To preferred plumbers “you get back the same Karma you put out into the world.”
Hard working and professional men. I called for a leak coming through the ceiling and they came out the same day and fixed the issue. Didnt make a mess and cleaned up after themselves pretty well. Good price for the quality of work done.
I will give these people 2 stars for unclogging my bathtub drain, which regurgitation problem they wouldn’t or couldn’t either address or fathom, though I described the fact that it began immediately after my neighbor replaced his small tub with a shower,; it stopped for over a year, then resumed a few weeks ago, filling up with soapy water, sometimes oatmeal, all manner of dirt, happens all day long every day. They poured something down after using their snake, then sprayed something evil, so poisonous, one intake of breath and I couldn’t breathe for several seconds, I have asthma, this was seriously scary. The open backdoor provided relief, but I threw out exposed food in my nearby kitchen- they could have warned me. They were neither friendly, thoughtful, considerate or personable. Charged me $650, adding $75 to their standard $575 for the use of chemicals. I was appalled. I should have paid them the $150 I’d expected, let them scream. The young man in charge complained his snake had bent, surely an occupational hazard as though it was my fault. His companion was sullen and unresponsive. This chemical now comes up with the stuff through the drain, making the use of the bathroom very difficult, was probably unnecessary. I cannot recommend them. The drain works not much better than it did before, nothing close to a $650 result
They installed a new hot water heater for a rental in New Haven. While they were there they fixed a shower handle that didn’t work. They offered me a couple of options for the hot water heater and I appreciated the info they had about the different hot water heaters. I ended up getting one I wouldn’t have chosen on my own. Friendly service too.
